THE GREATEST SOUL SINGER EVER CASE CLOSED.

Legend!!! Al carved it, and is a man of god! I was blessed to see him in early 70s, I knew he was going thru alot of drama, as I then was going thru 2..he helped me pull thru, or brought many hours of love and gapping, and very few performers sound even better live, the way he moves and improvides, and being able to go higher at 68, I guarantee he still grooves 2 looking forward to anything new!!! still looks great , it dont lkkkrack, u lol great , you are a very talented, chosen vehicle of god, beautiful man, inside out!!! Outside in!!!
Im still waiting on that album
Al Green is the music of my childhood! My parents partied to his music all of the time…

I'll tell you what makes him and legends like him, so damn good. Many, many years ago, my folks took me to see him and Patti LaBelle perform in a Broadway play called "Your Arms Too Short To Box With God" (this was the very early 80s, '81 or '82)….come to find out many yrs after I saw it, there was a lot going on behind the scenes, between the two. Starting with the fact that Patti's mother was dying, and she was going back and forth from NYC to Philly, after every show, to check in on her. Her and Al got into it one night when she arrived late and then during her segment, she ran over into Al's allotted time, as she got ovation after ovation. He didnt like that and confronted her LOUDLY. So in response to Al trying to humiliate her, she threatened his life when he got in her face to shout her down…she grabbed a glass and broke it and backed him up against a wall holding the jagged piece of glass to his neck. She talks about it in length in her biography.
so I saw one of those ovations she got, the night I went to see the play with my folks. Al, got a ton of ovations too. And what amazed me about both of them was very simple….they knew exactly how to lose themselves in the performance and the song. And as Ive followed both of them thru the yrs, its a trait of theirs that lots of us, take note of….this ability they have to just abandon themselves of any and all self awareness.
Which is to say, they aren't aware of what their faces look like, as they're singing…they're not aware of what they're bodies are doing as they're singing…and they're not really aware of the notes coming out of their mouths. They're simply responding to what their souls want them to do, at that moment…and they deliver that, no matter what it looks like. One of the great performances Ive seen from Al is one that you can find of him on YouTube. He's wearing a gold suit, and he's singing "A Change Is Gonna Come" at some kind of celebration of MLK's life and work…there were Kennedys in the audience…and everytime I watch it, it brings tears to my eyes. That performance is what I describe as Al, losing himself in the song. And its very obvious, as you watch it.
"Autumn Leaves"

Amen
