Incompetent Trump. How does Trump incite a riot on January 6th then become president?

@alexanders88 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

A couple things on the China Panic, accordingly to someone who is fluent in Chinese and has been teaching there for many, many years, has said 90% of Chinese would sell there own grandmother down the river to get a US Visa. While history does not always repeat, back in the late 80s it was all Japan panic (remember Paul's M Kennedy book: the Rise & Great Power's book…) now its China, but they are facing a demographic/population cliff, the environment is a awful, there carbon footprint is massive. The real estate is so over built. Further their economy is largely export driven not consumer consumption. There years are numbered.

Hanhahahahaha Ferguson….

@johannesjokow April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

Foreign relations and trolling should be mutually exclusive.

@kevinjenner9502 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

The world stands with Greenland in opposing Trump’s America.

@ABC-defg993 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

I laughed hard when Obama was applauded for breaking the bureaucracy and pushing The White House to 21st century. I wonder how many federal agents he employed in transferring from paper to his iPad, to deliver the iPad to him, to punch in his screen lock, to swipe and focus for him…

@johnsmithers5044 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

As long as this administration combats woke then everything will be forgiven…….. until they start coming after real conservatives,then things will get interesting.

@stellavinokur9377 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

I believe that Pete Hegseth ex-wife had discovered his affair when his accidentally included her into a group chat when he was talking with his friends about his exploits. Seriously , when does the pure stupidity from a high ranking official could be justified by "inexperience and novice". I guess we can all ask a rather theoretical question to Niall, what Trump should do or say for you to criticize him or even disagree with him? embrace Marxism? support DEI? Anyone's guess.

@sb5580 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

What I don't get is how the whole "white house in waiting" is left on the sidelines again, this by an almost 80 year old guy with reasoning issue left over from covid, not Biden, this time its Trump.
12:11 it's nothing to do with being wired, its just that Trump does the opposite of what Biden did because he seems to think that is always a safe bet. What can anyone do about the random notion generator now running the country?

@jez1522 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

Great discussion

@ephraimdavies1336 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

I hope this program doesn’t lose its credibility. Niall seems to have a fixed outlook on any issue related to the Trump administration. Good fellows used to be unbiased with a balanced assessment of issues.

@BuddyMcNugget April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

Amazing how none of you seem to care about the fact that they all lied to congress regarding the incompetence of the signal leak. You guys are losing credibility so fast with your repeated attempts to cover for these traitors and religious nuts. I guess lying is the norm for conservatives now. You've been normalizing it for so long, I think its all you know. Anything to get the power.

@vich1393 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

The diversity of opinions in the Comments section indicates to me just how valuable and capable this program is. Discussion is of the essence in any relationship, and the Goodfellows program continues to provide the example both in production and in the stimulation of others to also do so.

@xtrapnel68 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

Federal gov holding universities hostage IS politicizing the university. Universities' core mission(s) is not to support the federal government's aims. That's incidental and not without its own problems.

@JesseM-pz9lu April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

This is the 2nd episode since Canada, the 51st state, and give Putin whatever he wants, began. You barely touched on each. Please devote half the next episode to these very important subjects.

I'd like to hear about what Trumps recent actions in Ukraine mean for our defense industry moving forward. Also, what tariffs and the implied lack of security in Europe means to our collective efforts against threats from China.

@joekennedy2599 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

No confidence

@alexandermayer2026 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

Signal debacle was bad, as bad as it gets in communication among security people. Should heads roll? Evaluate the error against the damages and the total performance of the mistake makers. That disappearance of Biden’s Secty of Defense as a calculated deception lasted one news cycle. His performance sucked prior to, during, and after the deception. No action taken. Much more interesting is why JG was in a contact list that could mistakenly add him to a group chat. If Trump is happy, we will have to accept his decision. So simple, so much a nothing burger. You all need to create “content”. Find something meaningful. I can’t watch this anymore.

@larrybreyer4066 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

Despite the firing of tens of thousands of federal workers there is not a single disgruntled person with the ability to use AI to manufacture a chat. Is it possible the questions in the chat were worked out months ago?

@larrybreyer4066 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

I cannot believe not a single person in the chat group looked at the distribution and asked "who is this"?

@larrybreyer4066 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

I guess McMaster is saying the military has no such communications capability?

@savingeurope April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

I heard that the CIA automatically rushed to upload Signal on all their systems. Curious. Surprised the Goodfellows are not discussing the origins of Signal and their connection with the national intelligence network

@andrewfulrich April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

1. No we don't need to design an in-house gov solution. There are plenty of open source ones, including Signal itself. You can set up your own server.
2. Signal was not introduced by this team so it is a mischaracterization to say they brought this in as a cocky move to modernize things. It was actually approved in the Biden admin.
Good discussion though, thanks again for putting these out!

@TheWhitehiker April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

Come on, commentators, you must be aware that the woke left woud be pouncing on this 'scandal.' OF course it's overblown. The goodfellows finally got around to the woke response opportunism.
Moreover, Leavitt herself has spent too much time selecting the woke reporters to ask repeated critical questions on the 'scandal.' Why does she play into that?

@danielhall3105 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

Wow! Amy is quite the addition to the show. Bring John back and add a fifth window?

@RodneyWhittle007 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

Niall, you observation about "tech bro" culture being a problem (or just "dude bros") was very astute and a perfect example of why I watch this channel. Thanks for that.

@SophophilicWanderer April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

1. The average high schooler understands app security.
2. If the federal government can't function with remote workers, surely decisions made at the highest level need to be discussed in person, too.
3. This administration's ad hominem attacks even when facing the most damning evidence is schoolyard tactics at the lowest level.

@jimluebke3869 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

"The flow of talent from China to the US has slowed dramatically"

That's because we don't protect them from the CCP operating here in the US. If we made protecting them a priority, and eliminating CCP influence in the US a priority, we would get the Enrico Fermis of China again.

@jimluebke3869 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

"We have the technology, we have to make sure the dastardly enemies don't get it!"

Whether China gets it or not may be impossible to prevent — but preventing someone like Iran (who couldn't develop it on their own) from getting it, is still vitally important.

@drjen-gil April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

Is it me or do the participants on the podcast seem reluctant to criticise the Trump administration or hold bad behaviour to account?

@davecorley5514 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

An emerging tech not on the top ten – digital money. $3T global TAM; TAM growing long-term at multiple tens of % CAGR; money as store-of-value, currency, unit of account; global versus national spread.

-Threatens USD hegemony
-Opportunity for expanded U.S. global hegemony

@davecorley5514 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

Accountability versus responsibility. Very big difference.

@karlernstbuddenbrock371 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

So let the lefties freak out. This didn’t result in the death of Americans, like Benghazi or leaving Afghanistan. Get over it.

@g1956-q5b April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

Was Tucker Carlson accidentally invited to this episode disguised as Niall Ferguson?

@roberthumphreys7977 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

Sorry, folks, about the last thing this country needs is the House wasting its time in political theater over "leaks" and "national Security" when they have failed and continue to fail miserably at their primary roles, which is budget and spending oversight. What DOGE has uncovered should shake any tax paying citizen like they have never been shaken. Many of us feel like our government is in the business of robbing its citizens and little else. How about doing the job, Congress, instead of doing just about anything but?

As for "technology", Hoover should NOT need to explain what the word means to the people running the government (or should I say, nominally running the government?). Fewer lawyers in the House and Senate would help, though, a lot. Plus less time in political theater and passing yet more laws and more quality time trying to understand what is going on and why and NOT schlepping for donations from those omnipresent "special interests" would help, too.

@Benjamin.Jamin. April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

Niall. Are you trying to get a job with the administration? This is woeful incompetence. You've been measured an sensible all this time, don't go full on Trump cheerleader on us.

@TheHighlander008 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

Why no mention of the deliberate evasion of the Presidential Records Act?

@CharlesWasserman April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

I’m sure the Trump Admin. Is all for more science as long as the scientists are all white christian nationalists!

@ReallyLee April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

Cal Tech in Pasadena hosted a monthly Coleman Chamber concert program. Beethoven String Quartets, played with intensity is emotional support for great thinkers.
Why not have Amy Zegart arrange a concert for Technology Reviewers and Hoover people?
Such a concert, for the alert listener, might be a prototype run of a peace through music technology experiment.

@jannestrang April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

How dare you even entertain the idea of annexing a sovereign nation?

@TheZeusflea April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

Niall. The reason why the team is green and inexperienced is because someone picked a green and inexperienced team.

@telluwide5553 April 1, 2025 - 5:11 pm

This is what happens when adults aren't in the room. This administration is filled with amateurs at best and just incompetent cretins who are like pigs in a China shop. Destroying hard earned alliances, bringing on arbitrary tarrifs that are a huge tax on the working class who elected this clown and an unnecessary recession … Musk, Greenland, Canada and Europe…. what a mess!

All to distract the public from the real problems the American people are facing…
