In agencies like the CDC and FDA, ending someone's job has implications far beyond just loss of a chair, a pen and a computer. Many of the people in those agencies work in laboratories and many of those labs are very sophisticated. The work that goes on in them can't just be dropped and then just restarted. Much of the work requires teams of people. You can't replace experienced scientists and technicians with the sorts that Muskidiot has working under him in DOGE. A research project that is interrupted in the middle may have to practically restart from the beginning.
