I respect George Will, but I’m always amazed at how even he can get tangled in his own underwear. First, he laments how crazy it is to build these major CA metropolitan areas in “deserts and along an active fault zone.” Then he acts like CA losing a few million residents along with their corresponding congressional representation is a bad thing. CA has gotten expensive because the growth in this area is no longer sustainable. Conservatives love to let the free market work, but when real estate prices rise in CA due to demand they act like it’s a problem. CA is expensive as it should be at this point to stop people from moving there. Texas, Tennessee and Florida are on the verge of learning the same lesson. When CA loses about 10 million people it will be back to a decent place to live again.

I'm all for accountability, but no policy on earth was part of this fire. Other than letting homes be built in that area in the first place. And No amount of water would put out fires being driven by dry, low humid conditions and 90 mph winds.

Did North Carolina and Tennessee who vote 100% Republican learn anything when their states were WASHED AWAY by floods? Nope, they doubled down and voted for Trump. Flooding caused by climate change. Fires caused by climate change. Trump and his party call climate change a hoax. Project2025 defunds FEMA, and you guys voted to defund disaster relief. And somehow Democrats are to blame??

The fire hydrants didn’t work, but they were painted rainbow. Must have felt so inclusive when trying to put that fire out!

@Jennifer-do8cm February 21, 2025 - 1:13 am

The fires are due to climate change; no rain

@dgiss-1 February 21, 2025 - 1:13 am

Don't be so sure CA won't go RED….

@shirleybalinski4535 February 21, 2025 - 1:13 am

California should recal Senator Shiff as long as they are at it. Shiff is right back to his old way of acting like an idiot. California needs new leaders Including Schiff.

George Will was once my hero, our side lost him years ago, yet this week, Mr. Will spoke fire.

@robertblake9892 February 21, 2025 - 1:13 am

If there isn't a poltiical earthquake the California should be reduced to a territory so it can't influence national elections.

All well and good to quarterback on Monday morning butthese people only did what any true American would do, live the dream…..I can say, do, have what I want, I’m an American…..the creed especially of MAGA and the cult leader……look what he did, with impunity, truth, facts, science etc don’t matter……why are the people of California any different than MAGA?

@ginagold9840 February 21, 2025 - 1:13 am

It's the predictable result of calling climate change a hoax. This is such strawman b.s. You have a psychopath felon in the White House. Plus, California is no longer losing population. Get your facts straight.

@johnpcomposer February 21, 2025 - 1:13 am

Oh, come now you hypocrites. I don't see the people of red state Florida or Louisiana moving away from the coast or getting the basics right. The hurricanes keep coming and they keep asking the Federal Government to bail them out and nobody is criticizing DeSantis. How come Louisiana has not restored the wetlands that used to prevent the extreme tide surge that we saw in Katrina. No answer for that one? Florida is just not managing the weather properly, after all MTG says the Gov can create hurricanes. Hey, Ron, why don't you get Elon on that to prevent some hurricanes and flash floods! It goes without saying that the kind of building done in California is a big problem, but everywhere in the US people are building where they shouldn't build…people playing politics with an unpreventable disaster is a disgrace; But then you don't want to regulate people and tell them where they can build their houses. Right? Too much regulation. George Will is still with it enough to be the horses arse he always was. Nobody is blaming climate change…for the droughts that have caused this. Because western fires are a historical fact of life, they are just more severe now and there are people living in their paths. Here's the answer: everybody move to Kansas and Nebraska.

@thomasshoff6512 February 21, 2025 - 1:13 am

Calif voters NEED TO KNOW THAT A LACK OF BALANCE IN POLITICS IS THE BIGGEST ROADBLOCK TO THEIR WILDFIRES, LAND SLIDES, AND HIGH PRICES AND TAXES. BALANCING IN SACRAMENTO WILL SEE POSITIVE CHANGE THAT ALL CALIF CITIZENS WILL APPRECIATE.

@ginakatej4603 February 21, 2025 - 1:13 am

Budget cuts instead of asking the rich to pay more taxes – check
Dry reservoirs, totally NOT climate change – check
(Capitalist) insurance companies pulling out of the state rather than paying claims – check

Yep, totally democrats fault.

@kurtgandenberger6139 February 21, 2025 - 1:13 am

California spends three to fives times per capita what conservative states spend. they are not getting good value for their money.

@1cookgs February 21, 2025 - 1:13 am

The goal of the Democrats in California is to de-industrialize and de-populate the State. Only the wealthy will be able to afford to live in California and that is the point. Californians got exactly what they voted for and in spite of all these problems, they will continue to vote for Democrats.

@InfoReeder February 21, 2025 - 1:13 am

good to know George Will is still alive.
thought he had died
