Those wealthy groups that concentrate the wealth of the United States of America in a few hands, do not pay their corporate taxes fairly and are the real culprits of destroying the economy of the United States of America, taking the country's industrial production to other countries through outsourcing is not just an economic phenomenon: it is a *political project* of Republicans and Democrats that has benefited corporate and political elites at the expense of the working class. Its effects – from opioid addiction to the rise of authoritarianism – are an open wound in the American dream. Reversing this dynamic requires not only bold policies, but a cultural reinvention that values decent work over cheap consumption. Creating a convenient discourse to blame Mexico and Canada for the use of Opioids or Fentanyl is to remove the real blame from the Medical and Public Health system and of course all that political and economic group that controls the United States of America and is only interested in filling their pockets, are the real culprits. I will give one example of many around the country that makes it very clear how fentanyl got into the hands of our people. The opioid crisis in Ohio** linked to deindustrialization.
Ohio's opioid crisis: The case of Portsmouth and the industrial legacy
Historical context
*Key city**: **Portsmouth, Ohio* was an industrial center for the *Atomic Energy Plant* company (1950-2001) and steel mills such as **Wheelersburg Steel**.
**Decline**: Between 1980 and 2023, it lost 70% of its manufacturing jobs.
**Opioid connection**: After the closure of factories, local doctors massively prescribed opioids to "treat" the physical and emotional pain of unemployed workers.
Key Impact Facts**
*Jobs Lost**:
**2000-2023**: 8,000 manufacturing jobs disappeared in Scioto County (where Portsmouth is located).
*Wages**: Median income fell 32% (from $52,000 to $35,000 annually).
**Health Crisis**:
**Overdose Deaths (2000-2023)**: 2,500 in Scioto County (population: 75,000).
*Opioid Death Rate (2023)**: 58 per 100,000 (vs. 28 nationally).
*Origin**: In the 2000s, pill mills were prescribing 20 million pills a year in the county (*DEA*).
**Social Impact**:
**Children in State Custody**: 1 in 5 children in Scioto have addicted parents (*Ohio Department of Health*).
*Life Expectancy**: Fell 3.2 years between 2010-2023, largest drop in the US. Failed Policies and Responses*
*HB 93 (2011)**:
  **Goal**: Regulate pill mills.
*Outcome**: Reduced legal prescriptions, but increased heroin and fentanyl use (95% of post-2015 deaths).
**2023 Lawsuit**:
**City of Portsmouth vs. Purdue Pharma**: $10 million settlement to fund (still insufficient) rehab centers.
Community Programs**: Portsmouth Health Department**: Only 2 rehabilitation clinics for an estimated 5,000 addicts. Where are the public policies of the Republicans and Democrats directly at fault with the American corporations. Of course, on the Southern Border attacking Mexico, holding a circus for the distracted and ignorant people and Trump continuing to cover the backs of his rich friends in the various corporations, citing two examples of many, Walmart and Amazon that influence more than 600 million dollars to obtain benefits, giving to Democrats and Republicans in their political campaigns and maintaining without problems their outsourcing and tax evasion businesses.

People died during this hurricane and you want to make a frigging documentary out of it?? A beauruful little town called Lansing is no longer people are still cleaning up many are still witjout power water homes lives were lost. And all you reporters see is a story. The last thing we need us a bunch of reporters putting our loss our devastation on your tv show. How the hell would you know how hard it was and still is watching houses rolling past mine and praying that no one was in there. The is no silver lining lady just devastation and death.
