I climbed to the top of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse during Hurricane Dennis while it was sitting on the temporary support structure after being moved. The difference in wind speed from ground level to just 200 feet up was insane as was how much swaying and shuddering was happening not to mention the deafening roar of the wind gusts. We’ve had many tornadoes during hurricanes but they’re mostly likely waterspouts that cross the island that you can usually only hear from pines snapping like a string of Black Cat firecrackers. Watching the vegetation is a good indicator in my experience of when they’re most likely to occur or near. Of course the first time was with four feet of storm surge flowing through the house, ten feet in the yard, with friends from Chicago who’d never seen an ocean before. I don’t think my joke about “living here the ocean comes to visit you” was appropriated but I couldn’t show I was scared shitless too.

HAS BEEN DESTROYED ……
AND THEY WANT
TO REBUILD!!?????

AND I HAVE HEARD OF CASES,

We're looking at it. We're looking at it. We're looking at it.

@nikkiperry1236 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

Oh no honey, " you'll hear him say "let's go to my house" again it's not gone forever it's just you won't hear it until God calls you home, and when he does your grandfather will be at those Golden Gates "saying let's go to my house" only this time he's " saying let's go to Heaven

@stormywonder2125 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

Floridians are prepared for hurricanes, we know when or if we have to evacuate. We know if they plan to hit or miss our area. But sadly many of us don’t think to prepare for tornadoes even though rare they can happen especially in hurricane winds

@f1nch1312 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

Way too many people not watching the weather and getting surprised by these storms. People need to watch local news or Ryan Hall y'all on YouTube.

@racheldanson9350 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

This is why people need to take warnings more seriously. Don't wait to take cover.

@akindel6590 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

As a Florida native that rode the storm out in Pinellas, the only time I thought I made a mistake was watching those Tornados spawning.

@badcompany-w6s February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

What kind of homes were they? Trailor homes?

@maaadcheddar February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

It's wild seeing this after sitting in the comfort of my own home watching this all unfold on radar 1400 miles away. Even seeing the colored splotches on radar you realize the real world impact it's currently having. I think us weather nerds that get excited seeing these things should always have this in the back of our heads.

@OrganicOhioOh February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

That sheriff’s behavior is unacceptable!

@gc0819 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

I live in Jacksonville. How did I miss this huge story? So many people to pray for. Devastating.

@WouldntULikeToKnow. February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

Keep denying that climate change is happening and voting for policies that do nothing to prevent it, and we will continue to see storms like this. Pull your head out of the sand.

@eileenlynetteadams9182 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

Why the dramatic music? Isn't this horrible enough? The sound effects are totally unnecessary. Loss of life is devastating. This is not a movie set. Unimpressed with the need for music.
The information is informative. The victim's stories very sad. NO NEED FOR HALLOWEEN TYPE SOUND EFFECTS in your news stories. Especially when there is so much death and destruction. No need for extra drama.

@constancestinger5976 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

No lts not going to get better. It's going to become worse as time goes on. We have to get right with God. Jesus is coming soon. I realize that you have heard this over and over again but look at how the world is now. Evil is everywhere. Worse than ever. Please turn to God.

@BizValkyrie February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

My heart goes out to everyone who experienced this. We were traveling South through the storms and saw the Wellington EF3 from I-95. Shout out to all the forecasters and the Y'allcast livestreams for keeping us safe with very up to date information. I've lived on the Plains and have never felt that at risk before.

@keeburnett1823 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

I lived through this event. I lived in gibsonton, which was south of tampa and north of sarasota.

@jenamakes3705 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

Are there any gofundme’s to help those who didn’t have insurance, lost vehicles, etc?

@robsage7885 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

My God talk about emotions I've never experienced a tragic weather event other than snow this video made me cry and gave me chills I'm so sorry for all the loss

@desirosethorne4429 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

20:27 that poor kid literally heard his grandfather die.. That's so messed up. I hope he gets therapy and has a good support system because that can absolutely mess you up for life. R.I.P to Alejandro, Mary, Bill, and everyone else who passed 💔🙏

@philiphilton985 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

Climate change is not to be politicized, underestimated, or ignored! We will do so at our own peril!

@mrs.vhorton8045 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

The day the sky turned is one of the most amazing astonishing titles I’ve ever seen frfr to describe the crazy real story of tornadoes. 🌪️ wow

@vicw9223 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

Cant beloeve that meteorologist talked about this being unheard of and how hurricanes and tornadoes were getting stronget and said not a word about climate change. Smh.

My heart goes out to all those who lost their loved ones. 💜

@feoltmanns7624 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

Oh my heart – I had to stop watching half way through. I cannot imagine the terror & shock these poor people went through. They were waiting for a hurricane not the tornadoes. The police officer trying to save Mary, but she passed away before the ambulance could get there. And the young man’s grandfather died with her. 😢😞

@ronimontes2368 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

I am from Port Saint Lucie, I am grateful to this video and information. I can finally understand and see how truly devastated Florida was from the wrath of Milton… So much sadness but yet so many blessings… Prayers to those affected by the storm…

@GringoBaggins February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

The irony of the boat at 31:30 being called Dog House! any real storm chaser will know!

@Jules-1704 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

I feel so sad for these people i could imagine the pain they must feel 💔 😢

@CliftonPolchies February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

If you know that Tornados comes by and if you know that they do and your home is gone because of the Tornado then thats all on you why would anybody live in where Tornados goes by some thing is wrong with you people

@pp3k3jamail February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

💥💥Why they interview in an immigrant who don't speak no English 🤦🏿‍♂️

@Frado-v6k February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

I watched the remaining 20 minutes. I went from shaking my head to crying.
You unfortunate people. I will keep you in my prayers. 🙏

@ripwednesdayadams February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

I don’t even remember this happening because of all the hurricane coverage. This is crazy.

@Frado-v6k February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

I can't stop shaking my head! 😢

@grizzlycmmg9578 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

Lived through this Storm myself. By far the most memorable storm of my life growing up in Florida, we had a few small time Tornadoes strike here along the Nature Coast, they were so small that no one bothered to record them though. After the Storm had passed, while assessing the damage to my Land and our surrounding Rural Community, I saw power poles completely sheared and snapped in half. Something that would not have happened from the Hurricanes Wind-field by itself this far north. Our nearby River (Withlacoochee) rose to an incredible level, and is still dropping in certain spots along the River today, there a few area of Forrest here that will never be the same, my favorite Diving/Kayaking area (the Chaz) was pretty devastated, a neighbor had a ~6ftx6ft Hole in the Side of their Manufactured Home.

The night of Landfall, trying to sleep, hearing the Wind Howling menacingly right outside of our Window, worried about our Horses & our Neighbors Livestock. Having to go outside 1 time every hour on the hour in the incredibly cold Rain and harsh Wind in order to scan the Fence around my Land to make sure my Horses would not run out from a downed section, as well as checking the fence separating our land with Horses from the adjacent land with a handful of 2,000+ pound Bulls, and standing right under many 50ft tall Trees while doing so.

I will never forget having to drive 30 minutes North into a small town to get Gas at a Truck Stop, the line was 2 Hours Long, there were more people than I had ever seen in that Town, there were numerous close calls with cars nearly striking each other on the 2 Lane Road, the Gas Station itself was so flooded that if you had a low-riding Sedan, you were not getting Gas, my SUVs Exhaust was Submerged, other Businesses just North of that same Gas Station completely Submerged and now permanently closed. Vero Beach, one of my FAVORITE spots to go on the East Coast, was destroyed as made apparent by this Video. We were without Power for about 5 Days, and we were still among the lucky to get power back that soon.

Milton was certainly a hard hitter. My Family and I were lucky to get out with minimal damage.

@justintangaere3932 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

Tell me again how this isn’t climate change tRump!!!

@Roryehatcher February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

Thank you for giving voice to the folks who went through this. My brother lives in Ft Pierce and it barely crossed my mind to worry that powerful tornadoes would be just miles from him during this hurricane event.

@Christin5554 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

There has to be a way to collect money for these poor people so they can get new homes.

@southof.nowhere6096 February 17, 2025 - 3:35 am

15:34 What a legend xD.
