Going to just assume inexperience and not so great with information/decomp in relevance to a time frame or the fact tht he was found in March so it's a possibility hed been put in during winter weeks and the water could've frozen along with the body and preserved him…

Genetic genealogy is the key to most of these types of cases.
My theory in the little lord Fauntleroy case is that the man (from the couple seen looking for a boy at the site) took the boy to the site by himself and killed him for whatever reason, then afterwards went home or back to wherever they were staying and told his wife/girlfriend that he and the boy were enjoying the outdoors when he turned around and the boy was gone and he couldn’t find him. Then she insisted on going out there with him to look for the boy. They couldn’t “find” him and the man convinced her not to go to the police. Maybe they had warrants for their arrest, or they were drug addicts, or they were illegal immigrants or maybe the woman was in an abusive relationship with the man and he scared her into keeping quiet. I can picture how a couple in all of these scenarios could afford to dress their boy up. One or both of them could have come from a well off family. Or they could have been involved in some criminal enterprise like drug dealing. Then after the boy was found dead she would have felt like there really was no reason to go to the police now and risk…whatever stopped her from reporting him missing in the first place. The fact that the woman had been the one asking if a boy had been seen and that she looked teary eyed is what makes me wonder about this. I’m probably way off here but who knows.
