This guy John Mearsheimer is the incarnation of Neville Chamberlain in our time. His basic agurement is: because Russia have nuclear weapon hence everyone should abide to their wish and US should steer its spearhead to China but he totally forget that China also have nuclear weapon. Also his argument will make every single country in this world race for nuclear weapons because when you have it you can do whatever you like without anyone dare to do anything to you.
By his argument, Ukraine should not give up their nuclear weapons after the cold war then everything will be fine.
People like Putin only fear stronger opponent, someone who can dare him to fire any nuclear weapon and his country will be annihilated then Putin will stand down.
The United States has spent a ridiculous amount of money on this conflict. We could choose just to completely stop sending aid and support to Ukraine. I do not agree with this tactic and believe negotiation is the correct strategy. Russia is the aggressor in this conflict. Therefore, it makes sense to try to bring Putin to the table to negotiate. If the Ukraine does not like the deal Americans negotiate, they can refuse it. However, they should expect to move forward without our support. They have every right to do what they choose but we cannot afford to keep sending money and supplies for an endless war. One way or another this needs to end.

This is Trumps first term Quid Pro Quo scandal rearing its ugly head again. Trump refused to release the funds Congress had allocated for Ukraine, which is against the law, until Zelensky made an official statement lying about Joe and Hunter Biden. A statement made up by Trump. Zelensky wouldn’t make the statement and here he is.
Trump did well. He was one of those who prepared Ukraine for war, supplied it with weapons, believing that he could destroy Russia or at least weaken it (which happened). He watched how the war weakened the economies of the Europeans, who began to rise too much and compete with the United States. And when the Ukraine project became unprofitable, he decided to close it and take the laurels of the savior of the world. At the same time, to receive dividends from investments from Ukraine in favor of their country, to push aside the Europeans from the trough. And free up resources for the next conflict (probably with China). Nothing personal, just business. Not very kind, but a very smart leader for HIS country.
The fact that he is Putin's friend is also nonsense, otherwise why would he need Greenland? It is not yet known what he wants from Russia, because there are other points of contact between the interests of the two countries.

I think John Maersheimer is wrong about one thing. There is going to be US military support in Ukraine, and there are going to be US troops there. Only, fighting for the other side, of course… (Trump talks with Putin are about the share out of the spoils of war… it is Putin who is offering Trump all those Ukrainian natural resources and whatnot, that's the only thing Putin can offer, apart from flattery and/or whatever leverage he has on Trump, and Trump will eventually want to make sure he gets his share).

Mearsheimer is horrible. He can only see the world in terms of great powers. The "deal" he talks about is ridiculous. There is NO way that Ukraine will make a "deal" that has no security guarantees, permanently gives up the land Russia already took and basically disarms itself so as not to be a "threat" to Russia…the country that invades. It's like the US making a deal directly with Hitler in 1941 on behalf of the UK, without Britain being involved saying they won't step in to stop Hitler, Hitler will never give up the land he's already taken in Europe and the UK must disarm to not "threaten" Hitler…that's basically and open invitation to invade and conquer in both cases. It's insulting.
This is classic Mearsheimer, only "great powers" have agency and everyone else is a pawn and has to just accept the "spheres of influence" yet Russia is no longer a great power in any sense of the word outside of their nuclear arsenal, assuming it still works and has been maintained and modernized. They have the GDP of roughly Spain. It's laughable. They are using donkeys to deliver supplies to their troops at certain locations along the front. Ukraine has held out for 3 years and with EU help he can outlast Russia or bleed them dry even if the US lifts sanctions since the EU can double down on sanctions and hand over the 300 billion in seized Russian funds.
All Trump is doing is losing influence in the world as the EU and Ukraine will go it alone, as will other "allies" and Russia is just using Trump and has their own ambitions and will never workd in good faith. China will see this as US capitulation and will very likely launch an attack on Taiwan soon. This is a huge mess.
