Why AI art is so controversial

You’ve probably heard about “AI art” – pictures created by simply typing in a few words. These are text-to-image generation tools …

There’s also the problem of how bad it is for the environment. Generating these images takes massive amounts of energy, making the cost greater than the cost of hiring a real artist, but in a way that people “making” AI don’t care about.

@SunnyE_Mechwarrior February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

It's very nuanced issue, i have generated videos, images and music using AI but it's for my own consumption. I don't make money it, nor do i want too. I get why artist hate it, they fear they will loose their livelihood. But i think artist should take up AI they are way you can control and generate or morph into other out worldly images. As for commercializing i was approached by someone who offered "protect" what we were doing. I had to mention the courts and copywrite offices already said you can not copywrite or registered any art created by AI. So if you run a business you can and will loose control of any ai generated material so you still need artists

@wolfmationzmusiclive February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

Oh, by the way, another problem with AI art that I probably should point that the hands look so weird I mean some hands look like they were mashed together while others look like they were just removed from the picture entirey

@Delta007YT February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

its like getting a commision from an artist. you give them your idea, they paint it for you. you might own it, but it does NOT mean you made it!

@SpiffySpecs February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

It also goes way deeper than that.

AI "art" is teaching society to be lazy. To have a program "create" something in seconds relinquishes the drive to own something that is truly yours. You worked hard on that art project. You put the hours into it.

Think of it like this, two guys (e.g. Sam & Joe) want a car. Sam wants to take the long way there and decides to buy the parts to build the car himself. Yes, it will be expensive and take him months or years to get there, but that hard work will pay off once he starts the engine. Plus, he has also gained some knowledge on how his car works. If a part needs replacing he knows which one it is.

Joe, on the other hand, had his car gifted by someone. In this scenario, is not truly his. He can not truly appreciate it, because to him the car is good enough.

For artists who think like Sam, they will suspect the "art" to be AI and disregard it like last week's trash. For people like Joe, AI's "perfection" is good enough.

@athira8446 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

Plagiarism thata the word

@DMP64 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

Also, how A.I. is using so mutch energy to function. Not good.

@HeyArlo February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

I love AI art, looks better then most of the so called artists online. I don't care, get with the changing times or fall by it.

@GavinWise-vk4tr February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

replicating is understatement, it's borderline tracing

@eliasmsv3156 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

Calling a person who’s using AI an artist is like calling someone a chef for ordering McDonalds

@calebjohnson9740 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

Nobody wants to go to a museum of AI art, or spends thousands, even millions for a piece of AI art to hang in their home. Because it’s worthless. The thing that gives art its value is all of the thought and time and energy that the artist poured into it, all of the personal touches and imperfections on the canvas, and all of the creativity and vision that it takes to make something truly unique and truly beautiful. You might notice that when you look at a piece of AI-generated art, there’s just something missing. And that’s humanity. Something that can never be replicated by AI.

@gothmaniow February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

Ai is not art …art is a derivative derived from two words "artist" and "artistic" and both of those have feeling, imagination and most of all human interaction…
That bull 5hit AI has no feeling ,no imagination and most of all no human interaction its a program using an algorithm that is literally steaing the ideas and work of others so its a cyber theif … And does not need any one with years of learning and knowledge of actually being an artist …
I hate anything ai ..my client base was halfed if not more because of this job losing idea …
I have over 20 plus years of learning Photoshop .to create all my art but since this rubbish has surfaced i can no longer support myself with my favorite hobby and income bringer .. and tbh if i had a time machine to go back in time i would definitely go back to stop ai from being a thing ….anyone involved in this monstrosity should be ashamed of theirselves ….🤬 Fck ai and all who support it 🖕🏻

@lennysamuel9290 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

First of all, zero comparison. It's lazy, lifeless art!!!!

@RobertMarzullo February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

Ai "Fake Art" is just a distraction and a way for corporations to get users that have to pay for their technology to create. It's actually very sad that people are so short sighted and willing to forego their own growth and/or interdependency for the quick and easy result. To all the real artists out there, don't worry your hard work and self development will still pay off. There are plenty of
people in the world like myself that will never pay a single cent for Ai. I will always value real art from an actual person no matter how good generative images and videos get.

@ashe4702 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

imagine someone arguing that there shouldn't be any cars because we have people who can carry them to their destination

@jayknowles2146 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

There is no controversy: AI art bad.

@sydrichardson6103 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

In film school we all directed the same script as a project. 15 completely different films. It is nothing like making new art. Humans put their own personalities into art

@mikumbo8763 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

It's over, it's over for all artists.

@jimc6694 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

When creating this "artwork" yhe person doing it should say it is AI. People aren't believing anything they see anymore…well thr gullable people still do.

@rgnogstar February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

I love ai art

@Squatz1235 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

Ai would do way better if it took a bit longer to make its image better if that’s a few seconds imagine what a few minutes can do or even hours

@AkbarZeb-p6f February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

I LOVE ai art because it saves countless hours of sifting through shitty anime & fanart just to find one, good, realistic gem.
This is one sector that I appreciate ai taking over because most people are absolute shit "artists".

@cathunter27 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

Ai "art" isn't art. A human is not actually making it, and art is human expression, and only humans can make it so ai isn't making any form of art at all. All it's making is an empty shell of nothingness.

@Jisu-q1f February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

art folks are done fr

@InnovativeSaint February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

The whole mind body problem takes on new meaning.

@milliemoo5135 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

Alright. Fine. I’ll just say it. I don’t hate ai because of the environment, it probably has the same impact as watching YouTube or scrolling TikTok or something. And it didn’t steal my work because my art is so ass I don’t post it. I’m scared ai is making humans lose humanity. I feel like I’ve spent so long trying to connect with other humans and it’s only getting harder. Maybe I’m too sentimental. But I feel like we’re doing everything to never have to connect to each other again. Less interaction with employees and servers and cashiers (here in Poland we’re starting to get 100% staffless shops) just less hassle I guess. Ai companions who always say the right thing, always agree and would NEVER betray you, maybe you should tell them your problems, instead of your loved ones. Ai art that just LOOKS NICE! and it’s so quick to make! No pesky meaning or deep personal thoughts from the artist I have to understand and empathize with? Finally! I feel like we’re just trying to shut into an individualistic perfect little pleasure bubble where we never have to do anything too hard or deal with other flawed and problem-generating humans.

@biancaverdeschi880 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

The key point is that: what HUMANS do. Not a programme! To create ANY piece if art a human mind needs to reason on each and every detail no matter if it's just a spot of paint. The PROCESS of THINKING what we want to create is human. The rest is a programme, not art and not right. We are looking ai literally nothing when we look at ai. We must come together across continents, across creeds, races, and politics, to stop it

@chrisk6637 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

First issue: no, even if ai replaces the Mainstream market(which it wont) indie projects will still exist

Second issue: i don't think so

@Quadrian47 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

I dont want ai do human's art and writing so humans can do daily work, i want ai to do the daily work so humans can write and express creativity 🙂

@MagnaFae February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

If someone were to do an art study and practice anatomy or expressions or poses from a more experienced artist, they would develop an understanding of how to replicate that style and fundamentals, eventually without a guide. If that same person uses AI to generate an image to suit a prompt reminiscent of an existing artwork, they are no closer to understanding the principles and techniques that resulted in the original artwork. One avenue involves the development of a new skill, which is scientifically proven to be good for your brain health. The other is a deferred process given to a machine, and nothing of substance is gained.

@unadomandaperte February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

legislation, legislation, legislation.

@Graphitorillustrator February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

Artists should publish research papers using chat gpt. 1000 per day

@Graphitorillustrator February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

It saturates the market. That is what it does. Let me publish research papers using chat gpt. A 1000 of them each day. That will be really helpful for scientist. All the clowns are like so happy now

@themostepichandle February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

Also it sort of removes the human nature and want to express emotions so removes the entire point

@smeagol24367 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

The AI videos are absolutely atrocious

@OffiGameWave February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

I don‘t care at all because I‘m just happy that I can give the characters I create an actual design that isn‘t just stuck in my imagination forever because I have 0 drawing understanding no matter how much I try to learn it.

@coltonbiggerstaff February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

hey 1st Amendment in a simple sentence?“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

@axelbruv February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

It's not art. They're AI-generated images. Art is a form of human expression.

@uwotmate-d3m February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

“Art” is just a word pretentious people came up with to make themselves feel better about having no real skills. And now AI has made it so everyone is an “Artist” by default, they’re upset because their “skill” no longer means anything.

@simonthedigger2874 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

Ai art is controversial because bad artists are scared they will be replaced while good ones will flourish.

@PinkyJapan February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

I am pro AI art but only to a certain point. I am a writer and I cannot tell you how fun it is to describe a character that I have in my head to AI and have a tangible image displayed in seconds. I use this for my own fun – I don’t upload the art or share it. I’m not profiting off it and I’m not trying to pass it off as “art” or my own work. It’s just fun that I’m having when I’m writing a scene or planning a character profile. I gave him the names of some contemporary artists that I like and asked if he could mimic their style and he flat out refused. On top of that, AI art ALWAYS has a tell. The more AI art I see, the easier it is to spot. I have yet to see an AI image without some kind of weird error or discrepancy.

@youdonotknowme. February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

Art is about expression. Why are we automating it?

@junanamrouti2190 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

You should make a video about epigenetic research and look into Moshe Szyf's work at McGill University. I'm a undergrad psyc student and I see epigentics as a way to more objectively look at ways that we can deal with addiction or depression at a molecular level and how the rigourous debate of nature versus nurture can be proven as cooperative by how our genes can be manipulated with methylation that deactivate/activate transcriptions that are already innately placed on our DNA. Not to mention that the whole study is incredibly new and fascinating and has yet to be tested on humans, but that will happen within our lifetime.

@kai_2210 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

We gonna have to start copyrighting our styles soon-

@sandyanimmanagoti7380 February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

Art is an EXPRESSION of personality, his intuition, logic, influence, feeling at that moment and whole story behind is involved in it. From which authenticity and true value borns.

I think it not merely an replication as A.I does.

It just does what you prompt.

I think everyone can sense the absurdity of it's art.

But still i am not clear what is true art

@ag1h1ruda February 16, 2025 - 6:45 am

Because luddites are being mad that their monopoly grants are falling.
